Hands Only CPR

Hands-Only CPR has been recommended as an appropriate response to cardiac arrest victims when lay persons are unable or unwilling to provide rescue breaths and as an option for emergency medical dispatchers giving CPR instructions to a caller at the scene of an adult cardiac arrest that was not likely caused by asphyxia.  Hands-Only CPR is CPR without mouth-to-mouth rescue breaths.  It is recommended for use on teens or adults (anyone over the age of 8 years old) whom you witness suddenly collapse.   Note:  Hands-Only CPR is not a full-length CPR course, and it does not provide a CPR card.  This is an awareness program that was released by the American Heart Association in 2005 to increase the prevalence and quality of bystander resuscitation efforts.  This call to action is expected to increase survival rates of cardiac arrest victims rather than one choosing to do nothing at all.  For more information from the American Heart Association, please visit http://handsonlycpr.org/
